Letter Home - Thomas Ward Sr.

Letter Home 1862

        Dear wife,
The year is 1862 the Union is still slacking in the war. We recently lost the battle of Antietam. I have heard many soldiers that fought in that battle say that the Union could have won the battle multiple tunes with the minimal amount of Union casualties. Many people have been blaming our defeats on general McClellan, I also think that he is the issue. He thinks that the south is no problem and that he thinks victory is just going to come in out of nowhere. I think he should be demoted. Hopefully president Lincoln will take some action and save the Union.
Sincerely, your husband
