Songs in the North- Issac J. Long

1.” Marching through Georgia”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-jtYT5COvU

This was written by Henery Clay after the war was over in 1865, it reminds how Union General
William T Shermans marched from Atlanta to Savannah in the fall of 1864. More than 500,000 copies were sold after 12 years of it being published.

This was written by Daniel Decatur Emmett and he wrote this to see how he wanted to go down to
Dixie a.k.a. the south in the fight. It was mocking the original version, which was for the South.
It is also saying the South is the king of cotton and North will go down to Dixie and beat them and win the Civil War. It also says how the Union will always stay superior and will never lose, and that the Confederates need to find their Uncle Sam.

3.”We’ll fight for Uncle Sam”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQL_EQi3M3o

This was written by an unknown figure in the war. They are trying to get the message across, that the Irish troops felt that the North is correct, so they will join the North and help to make the South join the North and come together again. It also is saying that they are all wanting to unite and they will fight for the
Stars and Stripes (USA).
